Ouch!
( This post is to be able to give a story link to anyone else that asks what happened to the car)
So a few days ago, this past Tuesday night to be precise, I was involved in a bit of an accident. Jenn and I were headed out to go do some grocery shopping in Jim (yes, Jim Beam-er, a friend’s idea), and things got a bit rough.
You see, I was driving down a local road (17th Street for you locals), and it went from 2 lanes to 3 as I went along. Naturally, as traffic was trudging along at a pace that would frustrate a slug, I went to the new (left) lane and began to approach the speed limit. While I was accelerating, another car pulled in front of me to make a quick left turn, and slowed quickly. I had two options – I could either try to stop, or I could try to get around him before we hit. I opted for #2 first, but as I tried this, saw another car coming from the right lane to the center lane just near my blind spot, and figured it was best not to get rear-ended by them. So, I stayed in my lane and hit my brakes, but not quite soon enough. Jim was almost stopped when we hit, but not quite.
So, what does the other guy do? They get out, take a look at their bumper (which had a minor split, almost unnoticeable), and told me they were ok, their car was fine, and they didn’t have insurance or a driver’s license. At least I think that’s what they said. They didn’t speak much English, and despite my talking to them in Spanish didn’t give a shot at explaining it to me in their language. Regardless, they promptly got in their car and left before the po-po could arrive. I was still a bit flustered, and didn’t think to get a license plate from him.
Long and short of it, Jim’s got a black eye (a $3500 black eye that will take 8 working days to repair, no less), and my insurance has to cover it. Did I mention I was smart enough to go with the higher $1k deductible to save on premiums, and that I decided to skip the rental part of the coverage to save some more green?
Anyway, take a look at Jim’s black eye. Feel sorry for him, and think about him as he starts surgery on Monday.
